Discovery 5...just stopped one day while driving. Exhaust camshaft VVT broken apart
2017 Land Rover Discovery 5. L462V. Td42.0L 204DTD(AJ20D4)DOHC 16v Turbo Diesel Direct inj. 4cyl 132W SUV. AWD (09/16-07/18)
Hi Guys, I have owned 5 previous Discos and Rangies... My current 2017 Discovery 5 just stopped without warning 2 weeks ago. She's only done 80K Kms. It was towed to a Land Rover mechanical team who said the after removing the upper timing cover and found the Camshaft VVT had broken apart. The relative compression test was performed with PICO software 100%, 100%, 95%, 91% and recommended the replacement of engine and turbo at a cost of $35K AUD which I cannot afford. The car is worth $45-50K AUD in working order. I'm looking for guidance and advice about what can I do now. My questions are: Is it possible that the current engine can be repaired and fault isn't as bad as presumed, if not can it be reconditioned or replaced by a second hand engine?
I am in Melbourne Australia. I thank you all in advance for any advice. Shane
