Driveline vibration upon take off
2018 Land Rover discovery HSE lux
After I take off from a stand still with gentle acceleration and when the car shifts from 1st to 2nd I hear a drive line vibration. If I were to take off with more throttle it does not happen.
it is most prominent if I start to turn left right after take off.
The car is equipped with a rear locking diff.
anyone else experienced similar situation?

Is it more like a 'thump'? If so, I have the same issue and have the rear differential. I have asked my JLR Dealer (Raleigh, NC) to diagnose multiple times, however they have never been able to duplicate.
Time will tell if it is a detrimental problem.

Straight-line take-off is fine, but a slow speed (take-off & left turn) causes the slight but noticeable driveline shudder.
iirc I generally notice the shudder when the vehicle is cold. i.e. morning start from home, or evening start from work.
Perhaps it's related to gear oil viscosity then. It may not be a defect but a "feature" of the locking diff. After all, I have been told by MB that the lag in the transmission engaging when shifting from reverse to drive (and, yes, I do come to a full stop before shifting) is "just a feature."

I’m still hunting for a solution for this. I can recreate this at all times regardless of whether the car is warm or cold. I have learned to drive around it for the time being. Taking off with a bit more gas especially when I’m anticipating a slight left turn as I take off makes the occurrence of the shudder less.
it however, never happens when I turn right or take off in a straight line. I wonder whether this has anything to do with the axels

The rear differential clunk is completely normal. The Defender I drove at the LR Experience Center at the Factory in Solihull had a clunking rear diff and the instructor said that it is normal, especially on a car that had 15k miles, all of which were done off-road. I also brought this question to a friend of mine who is a development engineer at JLR, and he said that the clunk is just a little bit of friction and not to worry about it. He said if it gets really noticeable, you should change the fluid. My Defender with the rear diff occasionally has a slight clunk when accelerating from a stop or when setting off and turning. I would recommend changing the rear diff fluid every 30k miles instead of the recommended 64k. I'm at 38k miles, and I changed the rear diff fluid at 32k, and also mixed in a bottle of Ford Motorcraft friction additive with the differential fluid. That has helped tremendously.
