Driving with 4 out of 5 lug nuts
After picking up my car from service at land rover I noticed I’m missing a lug nut from the front passenger tire. All dealerships are closed today and I have to drive 2 hours with a packed car back to NY.
Is it okay to drive the car or is that a problem?
thanks

It will be fine to drive till you are able to get it back for them to fix. I would recommend that you check the lug nut tightness on all the wheels immediately. A missing lug nut typically point to a sloppy tech, which means none of them may be torqued down properly. You can just use the Land Rover wrench in the bag with the jack and hand tighten them properly, will take a few minutes and provide some assurance.
In fact: one of the oldest jokes on record since the advent of motorcars deals with a gent who gets a flat tire just outside the fence of a nut house. As he changes the wheel, with the nuts in the wheel cover, a truck runs by, hits the cover and send the lug nuts down under the fence into a nearby creek. In despair the driver doesn't know what to do. A crazy, watching this, suggests he take one of the lugs off each of the other wheels to use until he can get to a nearby Pep Boys. "How come you are in there, if you are so smart?" "I am crazy, not . . . . !"
