Hello, went to dealership today to pick up some engine oil to change wife's oil. Asked for Castrol Edge FS Extended Performance 0w20 with the STJLR 03.5006. Parts told me they were out of the Castrol, but had Mobil 1 and asked if that was ok. I asked if it met the spec, and she said yes and confirmed I was wanting 0w20, and sold me the requisite 9 qt and the appropriate OEM filter. I got home and read the label, that spec is not listed on the label, it is the same DEXOS spec that my son's Silverado with the L84 V8 uses, so no biggie, but I'm dearth to use it on the Disco, even though it is a FS 0w20 extended wear oil. Any thoughts? I'm leaning toward just going to Amazon and ordering the LiquiMoly TopTec 6600 FS 0w20 that meets the STJLR 03.5006 that I have used before. Only too late in the day now to get it tomorrow and I wanted to get it done this weekend I suppose it is prolly not worth taking the chance, even though when one compares the specs of the two oils they are quite similar, and I do have the receipt that confirms I bought it at the JLR dealer's parts counter. Any thoughts?
There’s the possibility the Mobil 1 actually meets the spec but doesn’t put it on the label due more to contractual reasons with Castrol. Back in 2022 and 2023 our dealer used Pennzoil 0w20 as the Castrol was unavailable. I asked the same question and that’s what they said. They switched back to castrol in 2024. My view is you’re safe since you got it from the dealer, FWIW.
