Default Fog light questions

Does anyone know if the fog/driving lights mounted in the lower facia are LED?

If so, I'm considering swapping out the bulbs for amber ones. I would think that amber lights would work better in really bad conditions.

Thoughts?

Sounds good, but maybe try a amber film over the fog lens.

The fog lights are definitely LED, but haven't looked to see if it is modular assemblies. It will be great if someone can post the service manual of the foglight assembly.

Agree that amber is much better for bad weather conditions, and the OEM LED headlights and fog is pretty white (high K).

That's my thought as well. My original thought was to add aux lights on the front, but I really don't want them to be amber for a couple of reasons 1. they'll be mounted higher than optimal for fog/bad weather use, 2. They'll be used for off road illumination.

I was looking online and saw replacement LED bulbs that would light amber in color and thought that might be a good solution if the OEM fog lights had replaceable units.

I also agree that if anyone has the service manual for this assembly that would be great. I had one of my fog lights pop loose from it's housing and the dealer claimed that they had to remove the bumper cover to fix it. I hope that's not the case with the bulbs.

Many years ago Road and Track did a test of fog lights and bulb colors. The best color that worked most effectively in fog and mist was clear. Amber and yellow were not as effective

A quick google search brought this up, According to this study, amber is easier on the eyes.

Not sure on their test methodology at R&T, but would be an interesting read. For my eyes a more yellow/amber fog light worked better in fog/rain on blacktop. It showed the road better, especially imperfections, etc. For me the whiter the light the more it reflected of the fog/rain/snow and actually showed less of the road/contrast. It may depend on person then, but that has been my experience.

In actual fact very white LED/HID bulbs (4000K+) create more light, but show less of the road to me. I prefer 3500K or less in color, but it seems harder to get lights that produce as much lumens in that range.

Similarly a red cabin interior/instrument light seem much easier on my eyes and make it easier to see the road on a long drive. Wish the D5 ambient light option set all cabin lights to the color chosen.
