I damaged the plastic wrapping around the load floor retractor on my Disco V HSE 2018. Maybe the plastic was getting brittle due to age. But now the load floor is not running smoothly and sometimes it get stuck.
The replacement part LR082849 is expensive and would like to avoid buying a new one

Anyone with similar problem and maybe a solution?
Can I tear of the plastic wrapping entirely?

 

Not sure I understand. Do you mean the plastic sleeve around the cable that pulls up the load edge? If so what about putting some shrink-wrap plastic around it to rewrap it.
