Default InControl subscription?

My InControl app subscription that came with my car is up for renewal. Best I can tell is the app gets me remote start and remote lock/unlock. For $10 per month 🙄. Seems a reach by JLR to find something to charge for (basically by saying they’ll take away this basic stuff).

Id there something it gets me that I’m just overlooking? Have had it 2 years and that’s all I’ve seen.

I have the "protect" and "remote premium". The protect allows SOS call which is supposed to provide EMS with your vehicle location; I've never used it. The remote premium, in addition to the features you described, will also show me my vehicle location so I can find it in the parking lot when I lose it. It will also flash the lights and honk the horn and show the fuel level.

Even when I had it as part of buying the car, the remote start didn't work very well or reliably. No way I'm paying for it.

Mine works ok; not all the time but most of the time. It's a lot to process: cell phone to tower, tower on a land line to server, decoded, uplink to satellite, signal from satellite to car to start, in about 10 seconds. All so I can cool the car down on a hot day before I head down from the third floor to lunch.

Mine has all the features described in the thread and has worked fine, if sometimes slow. The remote lock is nice on occasion. Remote start has been good a few times. Journeys info is interesting. But in the end, it seems like JLR is just trying to take something away to get a subscription, and it doesn’t seem that valuable. Just the annoyance that they’re taking it away 😁

The SOS feature seems like the big one if you’re really rationalizing. The site they sent me to for continuing the subscription said the GPS sharing part of that would not be part of it, though. Which seems like a problem. Probably because the connectivity plan / SIM card would be something separate? I don’t know. I did not sign up to continue that connectivity when the free period ran out. CarPlay covers it for me.

Thanks, KamboMD for calling this to our attention. I wasn't aware until I saw your post but soon after, went through the steps of enabling it and went outside to verify. So cool to be able to do this, as I use the remote app all the time to cool my Defender down before leaving the house. And as reported, that option will soon be added in the near future. Loving my Defender more every day.
