Good to hear that your back in the road with you Disco, Enjoy it!! I was notified today by Land Rover NA that Transmission ETA to the dealership is next Monday. I will assume an extra week for installation and test..

Default Needed new transmission 2017 Discovery

My 2017 Discovery was leaking transmission fluid. I was sitting in the waiting room at Land Rover while the technicians were going to fix the “connector hose leak” when I thought to look on the internet and found this post. I showed the Service Bulletin to the service advisor and guess what - my car was one of those that needed a new transmission. I asked why they hadn’t reached out to me because I was in the VIN number range, but was told that they are unaware of how many vehicles have this problem. Since I live 3 hours away from the closest dealership, so glad to have this information. THANK YOU!

With anyone who had this issue - did you smell an oily smell inside the vehicle?

For about 5000 miles I keep getting smells of oil (like when a tech changes the oil and touches the exhaust or something). It has not gone away. After washing the engine bay twice very thoroughly, it reduced considerably but still seems there. The big surprise (sarcasm alert) is that the dealer did not smell it. I just noticed the repost of the VIN range and mine is the second listed ranges.

I will add that I do not think I am getting any spots under the vehicle but will check.

I did not notice a smell. I did put poster board under my car for a month and took that to the dealer.

I’m happy you mentioned it because I noticed a persistent odour (outside of the vehicle) while towing. It did have an ATF ‘sweetness’ aroma to it.

I’ll monitor for leaks, as I see the TOPIX excerpt indicates mine is within the range of vehicles affected.

FYI, I forgot to add, the NHTSA post shows a smaller VIN range than TOPIX.

Mine is within the Topix but the other one. Have a note into the dealer on this issue.
