Default Life of brake pads

Hello friends,
I have a 2017 D5 with 15k miles and I have a couple questions on brake pad replacement.
I'm out of warranty, of course, and I do have access to a good independent.
1) About how long do the front and rear pads last before I should start keeping an eye on them?
2) If the rotors look good, is it really necessary to replace them?
Thank you!

My rule of thumb with my old LR3 was rotors and pads, then pads only after 20k, then repeat.

My D5 has not needed any yet, but here is my choice.

$416 shipped to my address

Used these on my LR3 and RR HSE, never any issues

Depends massively on your driving style and where you drive. Start top urban vs highway very different. Our rears were done last autumn after 4+ years and 65,000 miles. Warning just came in for the fronts at 73,000 miles
I never got more than 30-40k on the old heavy LR4

Note they have a warning indicator to warn then they are low. Although it's quite generous and in my experience you have quite a bit more before you need to change them

I usually do pads each time and rotors every 2nd time. But at 73k miles I'm going to do pads and rotors anyway.

Default brake pads

My 2017 had the warning come on. We have about 65k miles and the rear pads were gone.

Easy DIY to replace after figuring out how to unplug the rear parking brake.

The front pads and rotors were already changed by the dealer before we purchased it at 45k miles and still look great. Plenty of life left. We drive hills and mountain roads daily for commute so we go through brakes often.

Should have at least 40-50k miles on the new set of pads.

So, our PowerStop pads are squealing at only 12K since new.

Ideas on a better set?

OEM? I got 60-70k miles on a set of OEM pads. Quite amazing I thought...
