Oil for diesel engine
Search did not find any results and I am getting close to 1st for me oil change on my 2018 model.
Do you guys have any good deals on oils? I have manual for the car, but knowing that technology in last years change on monthly bases, don't want to use 7 yo recommendations without double checking.
Do I need special wrench for oil cap? Bottom drain, or top extraction?

32mm oil filter socket I believe...
oil change interval 5-8K NOT 16K!!!
Fuel filter every 10- 16K ( every other oil change)
both of these meet the spec.
MOTORCRAFT SAE 5W-30 F-150 Diesel Motor Oil
or
MOBIL 1 esp 5w-30 ( usually what I use)
you can also search the forum for more info.
good luck!

I've been sending oil samples to Blackstone and they always come with very good results, suggesting even extending the intervals.
So I wonder if you have any test backing up your opinion?
Years ago, putting lot of miles on Ford Powerstroke, I was using different oil to compare. The Motorcraft Ford put in it was very cheap, when Mobil1 was generating high iron.
Suppose M1 changed the formula since then, but fellow MB owners doing the reports show that higher iron is still issue with M1.
Thanks for your opinion.
I've been doing 20,000 oil changes on MB Sprinters, who have bigger oil pans and 13k on MB sedans, who with smaller oil pans have service reset at 10k (giving 13k when you drive it).

Watch LRTimes you tube on the subject.(search)
But of course do what you feel is best for you. I'm not the only one in the forum who does the shorter intervals. fyi

Based on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3moekbW6z8 I've switched to Amsoil 5W-40 Diesel Signature Series (which I also use in my Duramax truck). The Td6 runs noticeably smoother than it did with the Castrol 5W-30. Manufacturers care more about corporate average fuel economy than they care about what's best for the engines.
I never used amsoil.
Was approached by Amsoil representatives over 20 years ago and they explained me the ladder system they use and I concluded that based on brainwashing.
So even I hear they do have good product, I don't use it out of principals.
Amsoil did not get Mercedes approval for oil and that is what I was driving till last purchase.

That Amsoil oil doesn't claim any DPF compatibility on the product page. Their spec sheet claims ACEA E9 compliance, however, which makes it a mid-SAPS oil. ACEA C1 specified for the TDV6 is low-SAPS to reduce ash buildup in the DPF. The only other low-SAPS specification that I've found is ACEA C4. Unfortunately that's pretty impossible to find in the US.
