I while back I had a local glass shop replace the windscreen after a chip. It seems they wrestled off the A-pillar trim pieces and broke some of the clips, they used adhesive to hold them back on. Couple months later the drivers side blew off while driving, They replaced it no charge at the time but just the other day it blew off again.
I've went ahead an ordered new a-pillar trim covers for both sides and also the retaining strips that they clip into. Does anyone know how the retaining strips are affixed to the a-pillars? Are they using clips or is there an adhesive strip on the back? I wasn't able to find them referenced in the shop manual. I wanted to print out the procedure so they don't mess this up, I'm away from my vehicle for a while otherwise I would look after it myself.
interesting, I had that trim fall-off soon after I bought my CPO D5. Thankfully the local dealer replaced it under-warranty.
mine was passenger side though.
I just did both sides yesterday. Behind each number is a clip. They are kinda frail so be careful when popping them in. Pull the tape cover first. If you try to pull it after you install it, it'll rip and be clipped and partially struck on.
The previous people decided to use the same windshield adhesive to epoxy in both side of this retainer on mine. I had to chisel off the passenger side which wasn't fun.
I don't see any separate clips for the moulding and finisher in the parts diagrams. The moulding plate attaches to the A-pillar and the outer finisher snaps onto the moulding plate. It looks like if the clips break the intention is the whole parts are replaced.

Gotcha.......... maybe I just need to pop it off and retape it?
I have plastic tools........any technics or strategy out there?
The outer finisher/capping looks pretty easy to get off. Slide down to release the clips and pull off. I'm still looking for the mounting plate in the manual.

I had a good look though the service manual and was not able to find the mounting plate referenced anywhere. Provided you have replacement ones you will be able to tell where it clips in to pry the old one off.
The numbering on the mounting plate was initially baffling to me. Is it possible each number is right above the clip to the A-pillar and that's the order you're intended to pry it loose with a trim tool?
