Default PSA - Lube your hood latches

My hood latch was getting increasingly harder to pull, not releasing the hood until the end of the throw. Was shopping for a new cable & decided to spray some silicone on the latches.
Surprisingly, the latch functions like new again & releases midway through the pull. Seems obvious - but all threads I searched just recommended replacement.

Thanks for that. Mine just started sticking last week. I'm going to have to look at it in the next few days.

I just lubed mine with a dry lock/latch lube and it seemed to be a little better. The passenger side latch still only releases at the very end of the lever pull. I've got a replacement cable coming and will post a how-to once I get it in. Depending on when it shows up that may not be until after Christmas.

When I looked at the cable end by the hood latch, there was a bit of free play before the end actuated the latch. Maybe try putting a zip tie there to take up the free play and act as a spacer?

Zip tie... you have got to be kidding me. You, sir, are my hero for the day. Ten cents and less than 30 minutes. It took longer to realign the latch and get the hood level again than it took to fix this.

That’s awesome!! Quick and easy fix. If the cable end ever breaks, it wouldn’t be hard to crimp an end on there too. Well done!
