Default Software update stuck?

How does the software update work? I have a wifi network for my yard and garage and WM connected to it. It says it found an update that’s 250mb or so and now says “Downloading New Version” and has been doing so for over a half hour. Can I just turn the car off and go inside or do I need to leave it running or what?

It can take ages sometimes.
I just leave it, go back to the home screen , drive around as needed. Had to restart the process once, but most of the time it completes.
Just lime watching a kettle boil. Leave it and drive it or just come back later.

but when downloading or installing do I need the engine running? Should I leave it running for a bit or just shut it off and go inside like normal?

I leave the engine running, but I don’t think it is necessary.
I used to sit and wait, but the last update I did was while I drove around for errands.

I don’t have the cell package I have to use the home Wi-Fi but it did already download it and has moved onto installing so I guess I can do whatever I need now.

I don't know if the update will take you to the latest version, which is version 20-something, of if you'll have to do all the incremental updates and step your way to the latest.

Any map updates require you to leave the engine running....so I would think this is the same.
