It is WAY early but just pretty impressed with these Nomad Grapplers. Nitto [and Falken too BTW] came out with a XL 110H 255/55/20 ATR. Falkens are a V rated ATR which I find hard to believe but . . . we won't be driving offroad 149mph I guess, just sayin. Wussie! It does however require a better built tire to meet the higher speed standard. Why I always go at least T and prefer to go H on ATRs.
Both are fairly mellow by ATR standards but more gnarly than my Yokos were. Look great, drive great, will [likely] handle anything we will do at our age and hopefully won't lose the 1.5-2mpg we did with the 275 Yokos.
Of course, WAY cooler animation . . . But, more importantly, a $110 off rebate. Otherwise, I could have easily gone with Falken.
They're OK. About 1/2 toasted now and starting to get just a bit noisy on the HW. We are old enough now that we don't do [what I would call] serious offroading anymore yet I know some would consider the unmaintained logging trail up to 9000 ft where the cabin is to be some pretty serious offroading. Then there are lots of across fields stuff here at the farm. No issues with durability with any of that.
Had one flat from 4 roofing nails.
Have had great street manners until now. Noise 22K in isn't horrible but I do notice it now.
Thank you! I'm looking for a predominantly highway tire with some off-road capabilities. I'm in the same boat - not much off-road miles so I need to focus more on highway quality and mpg than rock crawling.
Haven't considered that yet. Do you go LT with a tire that's 12lbs heavier and can handle a couple hundred pounds more weight? Guessing that cuts into MPG. LT may be a hair too big without a lift.
Yeah, as reported before, I liked those Yokos fine but they did cost us about 1.5mpg. I don't mind the smaller 255s if they hold up. Back to normal mpgs.
These Nittos will are fine but next time I am leaning towards those BF Trail-Terrains or find out why Falken thinks those Wildpeaks deserve 149mph rating. Won't be going that fast but, if true, they should be quite well made.
Marketing never lies. It just sometimes hasn't happened yet . . .
Well, pretty sure I cannot recommend these now. I have 2 more flats today. TWO!
Granted, it's all the new roofs that have gone up out here recently but my nearly worn out Coopers on my Tacoma running on the same country roads have not had any flats. This will be flats 2 and 3 just here recently.
Maybe they ran out of steel belt and used magnetite?

Falken Wildpeak AT3/W's in LT 275/55/20 or Toyo ATIII's would be my recommendation. Currently running the Falken's on my D5 TD6 and still average 25-26+ MPG's on a 30 minute highway commute with speeds at 70-74 MPH. Excellent in wet conditions, low road noise and handle everything really well. I do not do a lot of off roading, but they have held up on any forestry roads/gravel/sand that I've driven on and I am sure would be great through mud and anything else. The consumer reviews on Tire Rack and the extensive testing that they do led me to purchase these. No rubbing, cutting, etc. to make them fit. I have not rotated them since putting them on in Oct. 2023 and they've worn evenly. The Toyo's I ran on my LR4 before it was totaled and those were equally as good.
