Default Engine Woes 2018 Discovery SCV6

My 2018 Land Rover with 50 4,000 mi started leaking coolant a couple days after a 700 mile round trip. They replaced the front and rear coolant pipes as well as the high pressure fuel pump. After I picked up the vehicle from repair shop, I heard what sounded like a tin can rattling around. When I gave it some gas, thought it was a supercharger. Also started leaking coolant again... Joyful. Here's what I got from the shop today after 2 days of further diagnosis and they don't know what is going on. Any thoughts here?

The technician is looking into another possibility with the supercharger. The "set screw" is a separate issue that cannot cause a noise. He is thinking now that there is an internal failure in the supercharger in either a bearing or a plastic dampener but there is only one way to determine that which would be to remove the supercharger and disassemble it. I am still waiting for another opinion from different technician before we will move forward with anything else though.

The indie shop threw up their hands, tossed in the white towel, and said take it to the dealer. The saga continues 🙈

I used to go there when I lived in Atlanta for 10 years and had a 2006 LR3! Great shop. A 2-hour drive would be a hard swing. I wish we had a dedicated Land Rover shop in Chattanooga! 🫠

I dropped it off at the Rover dealer this morning. On a 6-minute drive, to my surprise, it did not make that awful racket in the engine. Maybe it's not as bad as I feared... Oh yeah and Android auto has not worked in a month. Maybe I'll figure out what the class action lawsuit has resulted in 🫠

Noise may be coming from the spring loaded supercharger coupler/isolator.
2009-2014 Cadillac CTS-V's had the same issue. A way you can tell is by removing the belt and manually rotating the upper pulley back and forth. If you hear rattling, that may be your issue.

I'm planning to change mine out to an OEM solid isolator when I do the coolant crossover pipes. Make sure you're only using the OEM coupler !

I picked it up from the Rover dealer. They replaced the purge valve and said it fixed the noise. Maybe that was a different noise... It made this noise accelerating on the highway immediately. Any thoughts on what this might be? It's a distinct and wrong sounding rattle.

I am dropping it off at the dealer today. I took it out with the Gulf Coast Rover group and did not have a problem at all on the trails. Heard the rattle there and back. While I was going up along straight Hill 10 miles from home, I was shifting the gears around to see if a gear was causing the issue and got under geared going up the hill. The check engine light came on and I started to lose power. I pulled over and the engine was shuttering. I popped on the Gap IIDTool and cleared the faults and everything went back to normal and I managed to make it home while the noise was still happening.

I drove around with the mechanic today, very nice guy. He heard the noise and thinks it is the transmission heat shield rattling. That was replaced as a technical bulletin fix after it was rattling in January, 2023 at ~34k miles. They are looking at it to confirm. Hopefully they replace it under the warranty of the last repair if that is the case...
