Default AT&T Dropping 3G for 2017 First Edition Discovery

AT&T is dropping their 3G system in February. This will stop cellular connectivity for 2017 Discovery’s.

Anyone heard what Land Rover proposes to do with this?

Yes, it is going away, and anything that is Land Rover or Range Rover 2016 and below ( I think ) or maybe even some 2017 vehicles, will be impacted. There is no way the cellular can be updated on those vehicles. It sucks big time. Also, your telematics and remote start will be impacted.
Now, IF you have a WiFi connectivity ( you can connect your vehicle to a WiFi network ) then you can use your phone as hotspot, or buy a hotspot and use it as your WiFi for the car. Still, telematics will be dead, or remote start.

Wow. I didn't realize that AT&T is sunsetting the 3G service. I have an 2018 and I think this model year has already 4G service which means LR has a different modem available for the Disco. Not sure if they can just swap it out. I had my home alarm system upgraded for the same reason and the provider swapped the 3G modem with a newer fasts 4G/LTE modem. Just a thought.

ATT is ending in 2022 February which is about 2 months later than initially planned. Verizon's last day of 3G will be in 2022 December 31st, then in 2023 there will be no more 3G for them either. TMO has already shut it down in many areas.
I do not think the wireless modems can be easily replaced with LTE, or at all for that matter. There is a lot of integration between head unit and the modem itself. Then again, JLR -if they wish- they may be able to do that. Doubt it though...
If telematics is not important to you, AND if you have the Wi-Fi module, where you can "attach" the vehicle to an existing Wi-Fi SSID, you may use the phone as hotspot. Problem is that none of the fancy functions will work anymore - remote start, tracking of the vehicle, and telematics.
Is an end of an era some how ....

Let's see how that develops. 2017 vehicles are only 4 years old and I can only imagine that all the Range Rovers, and Range Rover Sports out there have the same issue. Lot's of unhappy clients if they can't have a solution for that.

In my line of business we addressed this 5 years ago. This is a really big issue & JLR isn't being super transparent. Tesla are offering $200 upgrades. Toyota & Audi are telling people who will lose service. In Canada some OEMs did the right thing back with the last sunset. I'm just glad we got our new at the time 2018 instead of the higher spec 2017.

Exactly. Class action suite in the making right there. Just read through the article and the list of cars. So, you bought an A8 for $120K and you are not connected anymore.
