One of the reasons I bought the D-V and waited for a factory trailering option is that I have a 5000# trailer to tow.

I went to the local truck accessory/hitch shop and they said they could not add an electric brake controller. They said LR changed something a few years ago and they can't make the aftermarket controller work. They said I had to go to the dealer to get the LR controller and have it installed.

I called two LR dealers. Neither have any idea of how to add a controller and don't know if LR offers such a box. They said there is nothing in their parts list or accessories catalog.

The manual says any trailer over 1654#s need the "overrun brake control".

Has anyone figured out how to add a brake controller?

Half of the reason to buy the D-V was to pull a trailer.

 

 

Thanks jbryan but I called etrailer early today. They said they did not have a controller that works on the DV yet. None of the manufacturers have anything that works.

If you need to tow a trailer anytime soon, there is zero evidence that a trailer heavy enough to require a brake conttoller is just not possible. I have spent a lot of time looking for a solution or an example that someone has done it.

The local shops say they can't install in new LRs without setting off fault lights.

 

I installed the Tekonsha P3 brake controller that I had in my LR3. I used the harness from it. I believe it is plug and play, but I am not positive because I moved the wires around based on what I had read regarding the new Range Rovers. I ended up having to change the wire harness back to match the D5. I thought it was what the LR3 had.
This is what I have Etrailer.

Same brake controller and harness. Like I said I had swapped a couple of wires around in the plug on the one end of the harness here to match the new Range Rover/Range Rover Sport, but found it did not match my D5. It should fit without doing that. I used Velcro to attach under my dash.

 

And I forgot to add, I have towed my near 7K lbs travel trailer about 4k miles with my TD6 D5. It is an awesome towing machine.

good to hear the D5 is a good tow vehicle. How did you get the brake controller to work?

I had the same issue and ended up going with the Tekonsha Prodigy RF wireless brake controller, it works great.

We found that the wiring harness for the F150 plugs into the connector under the dash and seemed to go smoothly.

I have the brake controller installed but have not pulled the trailer yet. The shop used the tester and said it looked fine.

 

I second jaacina's comment regarding the TD6 D5 being a fantastic tow vehicle. I've made a few trips towing a 6,000 lb travel trailer and the Disco is awesome! Averaging 19 MPG traveling between the California central valley and coast.
