Default 03 disco vs. ?! New and need help.

Here's the dilema, I sold my company and my wife and I are moving back to california in June. We have a 7yr old, 11 yr old and a new one on the way.My son and I race DH mtn bikes and need the 4x4 for shuttling and travel as well as we surf and dive so the disco appeals to me. We are currently looking into different vehicles, one of which is obviously a Disco. 2003 - 2004 se7 or hse7.
What I need to know is what are things to look for as well as what are the main problematic areas and what aftermarket parts are recomended to replace ailing factory parts.
I love the disco and am in the position to buy asap and anxious as well so I need an informed decision.
Need help on it because the wife has her eye on a 03 Audi Allroad as well as a 03 Suburban on twenty's.

Thanks in advance for information and comments. BTW: I am not afraid to wrench and maintain a vehicle, just need to know the best parts to replace broken ones with as well as the ones that seem to be the biggest hassle so I can get an extra in advance as well as what I might need to take along on a road trip..

Watch for Disco Mike to get on line. The guy is a walking Land Rover manual. In the mean time, welcome to the forums!

In case you need some more prodding towards the Disco... If you fold the back seats forward and mount fork holders on the back of them you can hold two (maybe more) mountain bikes in the back standing up. The raised section in the back of the Disco makes for plenty of room for the bikes to stand up. You would have to get a roof rack for the Audi or lay the bikes down on top of each other.
