Default 04 Disco 2 head gasket job

Hello, I'm new to the forum I purchased my disco 2 about 6 months ago and I love the truck. Although I recently noticed a coolant leak. It never overheated but I have to add coolant to the overflow tank every few days. I brought it to the land rover dealership and they decided to run a pressure test. I was told it was leaking from the head gasket. I took that knowledge to a local mechanic who is familiar with foreign cars and quoted me 6 thousand dollars to replace them. I've been catching up on past threads where members went through the same issues and noticed them doing the work themselves. So now I'm at a crossroad of finding a used engine and having a mechanic install that or download the RAVE manual and try and do it myself... I'm located in the western mass area if anyone on here is around and willing to help I'm willing to pay... Any help is appreciated

You should check around 6k is a ridiculous price for just a head gasket job. Robison service is in Springfield MA and should do a much better job for a much better price.

New England?s independent source for sales and service of European automobiles.

Yeah 6k is crazy. 1500-2k is the norm
It is a very diyable job. Nothing technically advanced. Nuts bolts gaskets

Ya I couldn't believe when the mechanics started throwing 6-8k for a head gasket job when you can buy the parts for $150ish online.. So basically all those thousands are goin towards labor..which makes me want to try and do it myself..esp when it sounds like much less experienced ppl are doing it themselves... Any info is appreciated and I'll keep you posted

it really is simple. nothing technical, no guess work. pictures/rave/instructions make it "paint by number."
big question is "what is your time worth?"
10-16hrs depending on experience and how much time you want to take.
