Hi new to the Rover world but looking forward to it.
Just got a red 1999 Discovery SD with a 3'' lift ARB bumper Warn 9,000lb winch firestone and 10ply offroad tires

Welcome. Free shop and owners manual called the RAVE in download links below. Temp gauge will show 8-9:00, but just at 9:00 it begins to be way too hot. Get a scanner to see accurate temp info. Alternate choice 180F thermostat works well in most parts of the country. Best advice - call it a 98 when you order parts, 99 was a crossover year, sometimes the parts professionals give you the later version parts (D2) and things just don't work.

I have a 99 D1 as well and yes call it a 98.

Get the RAVE check out the 60k maint. list in the D1 section. Lots of good people on here. Savannah being one. Cruise through old threads you'll learn a ton.
