Default 2005 Land Rover LR3 transmission problems

I have a 2005 Land Rover LR3 that is having transmission problems. It still runs and drives great but the check engine light is indicating a transmission problem and it does seem to slip in 2nd gear, even though the mechanic indicated gear 3 and 4. I have visited with a few mechanics and they all say that for this type of vehicle that a new transmission has to be put in, which is $6k, and that it cannot be rebuilt. Am I getting the correct information? It really doesn't make sense for us to spend this much in an older vehicle with 141k miles. Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome to the forum kducat! Sorry to hear that you're having issues with your LR3 - it's times like these that it's nice to belong to a group of people with similar interests and advice. Although I cannot help you with LR3 transmission troubles, I'm sure someone in the LR3 forum section will chime in. I'd suggest posting your question up in that area for the best response. The LR3 side can be accessed by clicking on the Forums button in the upper left hand corner of the page and selecting vehicle line-up. Put 'transmission issue' in the title of your thread to attract optimal interest and advice. I hope you get the answers you're looking for and again, welcome to the forum
