LR3, 2005, 4.4 Lts Automatic Transmission Fluid
Hi everyone,
I have tried to follow up discussion on automatic transmission fluid change. The debate is overwhelming! I have owned a number of 4X4 and I have always performed oil changes to the automatic transmissions with no adverse effects on the system. Having said that, It seems that that ZF transmissions are "special" and I would appreciate any update information on a suitable oil.
Oil options considered to this point are the following.
LRN13754G (Land Rover Original) and/or LRN13754ZF (Transmission Fluid ZF Lifeguard).
Since filter is attached to oil pan I am planning to change it.
Any update information.

Welcome. You will find details on how to change fluid and filter in the LR3 shop manual, link to free copy below. One pro member posted about this being a 60,000 mile service interval rather than the 150K speced by Rover.
I did a drain and fill on mine last weekend. I used the fluid ford recommends for the Lincoln Navigator with the "same" transmission. Some people suggest the fluid is different some people suggest that it's the same Shell fluid that ZF and land rover bottle. It's Mercon SP and it seems to shift just fine. I think I'm going to drain and fill again, maybe this weekend, because only about 4 quarts went in last time. I figure that's only about 1/3 of the fluid.
