2013 RRS Tailgate Silver Trim Clearcoat Damage solution?
Just bought my first Range Rover (used) 2013 RRS Supercharged Fuji 100k miles. Great condition, one fault code P0526 (blows fine) and faded lettering and 2 small damaged clear coat areas on tailgate silver trim. As a quick fix till I order new letters, sanded faded silver lettering down to underlying black base color with 3000 grit sandpaper in about an hour, looks a lot better than expected short term, recommend to anyone else that has the issue.
Tried to limit future spread of clear coat damage by cutting out loose flakes, then spraying 2 coats of Rustoleum Gloss Clear over affected area. Ended up changing the color of the exposed trim affected to a darker silver and looks far worse.
Looked into replacing the trim piece, but LR only sells the upper portion plus trim as one unit (LR030911). Dont need all that or the expense. I've seen a few aftermarket guys on ebay selling the full kit with the silver trim needed, but they won't sell the trim individually.
My questions:
Is there a way to salvage this discoloration DIY?
Does anyone know the paint code for this silver trim piece (I've seen Atlas mentioned but cant find code), would a properly coded paint pen applied over the areas look better than this?
Is there a way to buy the silver trim piece individually and does anyone know the part # for that?
Any and all help appreciated!
Cheers,
Sean
