Hello all,

I've been using the forum since March '13 when I purchased my 2001 Discovery II SE7 with 196K miles for $1,800 (now the truck has 206K & counting)...what was I thinking? Have always loved the Discovery and wanted a 4 wheel drive. And the journey began!

Anyway, I'm a single mom with a 10 year old daughter and I'm learning to be a pretend wrench monkey (sort of). I know these trucks are best suited for folks who are mechanically inclined (not me!) but I had to have one!! Not long after buying little things began to go awry (no surprise to anyone here, right?)

Just wanted to take a moment to say THANK YOU. I'm a bit of a "self diagnoser" (drives my Doctor nuts) and by using the forum I have been able to troubleshoot mostly spot on! I always come here first to review threads with my symptoms, which saves me time with a mechanic. I found a great mobile mechanic who comes to my place and takes the time to go step by step and explain exactly what he is doing and why, so I can learn a bit as we go along and recommends tools I may want to acquire so I can be more independent. I also found a couple good indie shops who help without completely taking advantage.

I'm sure there is a nice bucket list of items for my truck and I am just taking it day by day. Love my truck and love you guys!!!

I have already replied to 2 of your posts, but saw this and wanted to say welcome!

My wife works on our land rovers with me and always enjoys hearing about other women who are not afraid to wrench on their rovers!

Welcome.... really glad that you are enjoying the LR experience. I just bought my first LR 3 months ago, it is truly a passion both learning about the Rover and taking it out into the back 40.

I was looking for an SE7 too, but found an 02 SD Disco II. Hope you continue to have a good time with your Disco.

Cheers!

Hi cammyr01, welcome. If your stuck on anything there is always someone here who has hit the same problems or failing that the LR RAVE manual is available on here and also online. I've never met a woman willing to wrench any car yet, congrats, met some quick competition lady drivers on the circuits some years back though

Funny though, when I fitted new engine mounts to my TD5 I was going to send my wife underneath the truck to hold the sockets whilst I worked from above, in the end I worked underneath and she held the socket bar above, I'm a real gentleman ............... honest
