First time Disco owner. Spokane,WA
Hello !
I just bought my first disco!
2002 SE 81k miles
I am well aware of the issues people say they have.
I have also read that people say they will last forever and not give you problems as long as they are maintained.
It had its 60k mile service. It seems the car has been well taken care of.
Sometimes it takes 2 or three turns of the key for it to start. Apparently the Land Rover dealership here claims its the fuel pump. They said it's not going to make a difference either way.
The way I am with my beloved possessions is keeping them fixed and in proper working order.
Everything else seems to be working on the vehicle.
I am in Spokane,WA . Anyone on this forum local to me?
There are a few mechanics in the area I have heard of that are good for rovers.
European Auto Haus
C and H import
Botzon's
Anyone ever heard or have experience with one of these?
Is it typically ok to bring the part to a mechanic and have them install it?
If there is anyone local I could sure use some disco friend advice.
Or if there is anyone that could help me do repairs.
I love to learn.
I am curious as to what repair books I should get and certain tools needed for my disco.
I am not interested in any aesthetic things. She looks pretty the way she sits.
I just want to make sure she is always running good.
I hear multiple views on what gasoline to use. Some say always premium. Others say you can use regular. Some say regular for in town is good but premium for distance is better.
What oil is awesome?
Can you get your typical filters from auto stores? Air filter, oil filter?
As you can see I have a lot of questions and will be browsing the forum more.
I am also very excited and very nervous about owning what I like to call "a beautiful time bomb" HA!
Thanks for any and all help!

The rules for new member intro are no tech questions, those do better in other parts of the forum where more eye ballz will land on them.
Everyone must have been lubing the hood latch.
See https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...estions-46975/
While in the tech sticky area look at the other articles, like high miles service and in particular front prop shaft rebuild, if not done the stock shaft will punch big hole in transmission when it fails from no grease.
Download the RAVE below, it is the factory set of tech manuals, wiring diagrams, and owners manuals for your truck.
Premium gas. Never let engine temp get over mid point without investigation.

Hey there, just browsing through here and seen that you are a local, I also live in Spokane. One piece of advise I will give you on mechanics though, don't take your landy to the LR dealership downtown. I have been down there a couple of times, either to have them work on mine, or just for some input, and every time it seems they don't know what they are doing. Asking them questions and they go, "uh I am not sure, I can look it up in the computer."
That was just my experience though, and that was back in 09 the last time I took my DII to them, I know try and do most things on my own.

I called European Auto Haus once and they told me they would not work on my land rover, didnt bring it in to them to look at, just called them to ask how much and could they do it.
Last thing, it depends on the shop if you can take a part in to them or not. Some will, most will not because of liability issues. If its their part that goes in to your rig and something happens it is covered, but if you just give them a part and something happens you could be left with the second bill to fix it again.
