Default Headlights not switching off

Hi all, new to this group. I have a 2000 TD5 LR Disco Series II. Odd thing has happened, the headlights won’t switch off as they should. Just stay on. I’ve been having issues with the classic M&S dash lights coming up, chime on turning the key and it’s wasn’t starting, I tried giving it some more juice with a jump start but it wouldn’t turn over at all. Left it sitting for a few days as I didn’t have time to look further into it. Next thing you know I walked I to the carport where it’s sitting, to find the headlights on. Hadn’t been near the wagon for about 4 days, headlights def no left on, but there they were, burning bright as ever, turned themselves on. Thought that’s bloody strange. Opened the door, turned the key, and it just fired up as if nothing was wrong at all, no chimes, no M&S dash lights. So weird. Trouble now is, I can’t turn the lights off so had to disconnect the battery lead. Very strange. Anyone have any ideas ? Thanks all. This is my second Disco, have found this forum very helpful.
