Default Hello from Alabama

Hello from East-Central Alabama.

New to Land Rovers in general, and especially this site. On initial review, looks like LR’s are chock full of problems but there seems to be a wealth of information and knowledge on this board to make life with an LR easier and enjoyable.

I don’t have an LR yet but looking to get a Disco for a second vehicle. My plan is to build it for long trips with the wife and kids to do mild overlanding, trail rides, camping, and sight seeing. I spent a lot of time crawling the deserts out west when I was in the Marine Corps and would love to get back out that way.

Any leads on a good Disco, advice on issues to look for, and recs on maintenance and upgrades would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome aboard. You have come to the right place regarding all things Land Rover.

The key words here are “long trips” “wife and kids”. Just my opinion, but I would be looking for a well maintained LR3 or LR4. Certainly not a D1 or a D2 (1995-2004 years). Of course, there is the new D5 which is a mixed bag so do your research. As far as where to buy one, they can be found all over the web. Plenty of forum members here can help out also.

Out of curiosity, what drew you to the Land Rover family?

I’m just a glutton for punishment, I guess. But seriously, I’ve always liked the Disco. Had a friend many years back that had one and always had a good time with him. If I could have anything I wanted, I’d go for a 110. But I don’t have that kind of money. And I figure with the Disco, dirt and scratches won’t bother me. I Don’t want to be on pins and needles every time I take it out. I also just much prefer the look of the Disco over the newer stuff. And I’m not a fan at all of the styling of the new Defender.

Hey @Mutt War Damn Eagle!

I'm in Birmingham. I have an 04' Disco II. Shoot me a message if you are still looking and want to toss around ideas or ask questions.

Default Land Rover Lr3 in Birmingham, AL

hey there
I am looking for a good mechanic that works on LR3's in the Birmingham or surrounding areas. Would love to find a former shop mechanic
that has a garage that say works from his house. Any suggestions?
