Welcome to the land of repair and despair under the same truck.

First, download the free factory set of tech manuals, called the RAVE, below. Includes owners mauals also.

2nd, go to the Discovery 1 section, technical listing (first one) . Inside you will find things to do, like for 60K and up service for new-2-u Rovers. Plus lots of other work arounds and fixes.

3rd - change oil early and often; 5000 miles is a good figure. Hard to beat Shell Rotella 15W40. But your prefered posh pure petroleum from Prudhoe Bay will do just fine.

4th - check engine fan clutch - should not spin when turned by hand more than a part of turn when cold, up to 1 full revolution when hot. No free -wheeling. Temp gauge is wide range - no movement. Usually runs 8:00 to 9:00 position. Above 9:00 start looking for things to do to cool it off.

5th - find salvage yards near you. Stay away from dealers until you have some more time with the vehicle. May have dismantlers available to you in the UK. Not sure how much our US based ones can deal with the shipping.

Have fun. take pictures, post in appropriate area often. And put some of that "love" in a bottle and save it for later when you have a major repair. And while this is mostly US forum, all are welcome. There are also high quality forums based in England, where you could get more info on parts sources, good mechanics, activities, clubs, etc.
