Default Hello from Brunei

Hi all,

I am a Brit living and working in Brunei and I have just bought myself a 1993 Land Rover Discovery V8. Its my first Land Rover since I left the UK 2 years ago, had a 2010 LR3 HSE......missing it badly!!!! It's also the first car in about 7 years I have had to do any work on. My last was a 1992 Jeep Wrangler YJ.....miss that too.

Look forward to seeing you all in the forums!!!!

Welcome, here is some "Brit Lit" for you, the factory set of tech and owners manuals called the RAVE, download for free below. You'll be wanting to change oil early and often, can run 20W50 or 10W40 in your area. Lots of members use a diesel rated oil for extra cleaning of internal parts. Keep your eyeball on the temp gauge, above 9:00 position is reason to start looking for what is causing overheating. Radiator is sturdy copper and brass and can stand a good acid flush. You'll find in out tech area a list of things to do to a new2u Disco, high miles service, etc.

Even if you don't plan to do all the work having the manuals is a help, even if you have to translate for the mechanic. Carry a copy in laptop or usb drive. D1 is the simplest of the Discovery trucks to maintain.

Post early and often, we "travel" thru the cameras of our members.

Many thanks for the advice. Lots of old Landies out here and loads of Rangie Classics. I am pretty lucky with mine to an extent.....it was re-sprayed before I bought it so it was completly stripped down. Unfortunately I'm sure it was re-assembled by a chimp!!! Kick down cable not connected, just hanging in the engine bay, brake discs less than 6mm thick and elastic bands for fan belts!!! Slowly working through the job list.

Those wimpy fan belts could be slipping and changing how fast your water pump and fan run....
