Hello from penticton b.c. Canada
I have a 2000 disco 2 that is probably going to need a rebuild of its 4.0 or a new motor . i am interested in trying to build it into a 4.6 if i can save the existing parts . hard to say yet as i havent started pulling it yet but i will post some pics soon . thanks for all the knowledge that this forum provides
thanks . I am trying to gain all the info from threads here to do just that . I was given the disco 2 for free and the motor had problems . now I got it running and lent it to a friend who decided that the oil level was too high and dropped about 3 or 4 liters of oil without taking the filler cap off thus a catastrophic engine failure happened when he drove it for 45 minutes to an hour and a half . so rebuild or replace with a used low kilometer engine . the decision will be decided very soon . I have a line on a guy who buys motors from the insurance company in my province so for 1500 and tax i can pick up a 4.6 with under 150,000 kilometers on it and that may be a cheaper option and quicker to do a swap . then i can take my time rebuilding the original motor if it is not too screwed up . but i am pretty sure there are some serious internal problems . and so the adventure begins

Welcome to the flock and sounds as if you already have some work cut out for you.
If you have mechanical ability, knowledge and experience these engines are very easy to work on. Also helps to be versed in the electrical/electronics once repaired for the longer term of ownership.
Good luck in your LR endeavors.
