And here it is !! The part you've all been waiting for !! Somehow, I knew that gear wasn't an extra. The three broken weld spots gave it away.

RE Spare tire: Rather than getting your 27mm socket and breaker bar you can use the tool out of the handy kit that lives in the tray at the bottom inside the rear gate next to the subwoofer. It fits and its right there!

My Rover came with a deficiency

The tool kit should have the rest of the jack....namely the two piece bar you connect together and that you use to actually raise the jack. Also, some tire chocks, and a lug nut ....tire wrench....crow bar thing. I go back there, open the door and find....

So I get home today and find this on my front doorstep. It ain't anywhere near Christmas, but I know instantly what it is. It's my 2003 disco front door drivers side window lifting mech .... from Paul Grant !! Yah Hoo !! I havn't done anything on this job in a week. Box is in good shape.

Inside, I find the part is surrounded by styro popcorn. It's superbly protected.

I take my 2003 disco front door drivers side window lifting mech .... from Paul Grant, out of the box and set it next to the broken one. For a second the sunlight breaks through the trees and shines right on it. The neighbor starts playing his trumpet. There it is !! The replacement part ! It's amazing!! It's astonishing ! And I know it's gonna work.

I get everything I'm going to need together and kneel down on a pad. I hold the mech up and visualized how it will look once in place. Don't want to get it backwards or upsidedown. With the glass wedged up into a high position, it's pretty simple to work it through the center opening and set it in the bottom of the door.

The next thing I did was put in a couple of the screws to hold the mech loosely in place. Then I snapped together the motor clip electricity because I need to move some things into place. With the key on.... I use the center console window up/down switch to raise the mech up a bit.

I look at the page on this door from the RAVE manual again, tighten the screws, and carefully remove the window support cardboard I have shoved in there. Watch out..... that glass could come down like a guillotine and chop something off. Well, ok.... it might only make you swear.

I have to lift the mech with the motor to fit the final widow holding bar screw. After they are all tight, I raise and lower the window a few times to make sure it's all working....and it is. So I close the protective inner door plastic seal sheet and secure with the black goop....

put the inner door panel back in place, tighten all the screws, and drive down the road raising and lowering my.... 2003 disco front door drivers side window lifting mech from Paul Grant.... and smiling. Thanks Paul

All the tools I used for this last job, replacing the window lifting mech.... are still right where I left them on the garage floor. Guess I'll head over to the "OFF TOPIC " thread and see what's been happening

Senormac this whole tread is like a flashback to me, been there and done that. I still dont have a rear wiper. The tire changing experience you had was quite different than mine. Picture it, a dark and raining night along the highway have not owned the disco a month yet had flat right rear tire. Found jack , and blackbag with tools . Started to remove lug nuts. Put lug wrench on lug nut and chrome cap came off what I now know is LR original Locking lug nut. A hour later found key to lug nut in small storage compartment at the bottom of passenger front seat. I will bet that some of you have the small storage compartment there and did not know it existed.

That's where the CD changer normally lives. In the small storage compartment.

Senormac
Don't crawl under your Rover with it just sitting on your Italian Jack. Get some jack stands or something.

HAHA.... Glad you liked it James. I haven't been payin much attention to my Rover lately. I'm in the middle of graphic novel deadlines and all my time has been going towards that goal.
