I might be a new Rover owner
Hello all, I have the potential to be buying a 99 Disco II from my brother-in-law. I am hesitant to buy it though because it sounds as though they have constant problems after reading through post for the last two days. The rover had a new engine put in a short time ago when my sister burnt it up and the front drive shaft was just changed when it broke. I can buy it for $4000 which seems like a good deal. It's in pretty good shape and have the rear jump seats (SE7) I think. I don't have a rover dealership around me and I believe the few local mechanics would be hesitant to work on a rover. I don't mind working on it myself and I have some mechanical skils but they look difficult to work on with all of the electronics. Are Disco II's that difficult to work on such as that you need specialized expensive tools? Also it appears that alot of the grimlins that cause problems such as the 3 amigos lit up aren't disabling to the vehical. Is that the case?
Thanks for any and all replies and I hope I am driving a rover shortly and look forward to learning more and getting my hands a little dirty with rover grease.

I had a 2000 Disco for about a year and absolutely loved it. It had somewhere around 100k when I sold it. I had no problems other than a very minor vibration around 65-70 mph. No electrical problems whatsoever. Another cool thing is if you don't have heated seats you can buy the switch and just plug it in for minimal $.
