Default Introduction

Hi, thought I'd be polite and introduce myself. I'm a retired mechanic with an interesting history with Land Rover. The first dealership I worked at was a LR dealer here in Seattle. I was 16 and that was 1968, worked there for 2 years (after school and in the summers), then came college, army, and 20 years with Porsche. I went back to work for the LR dealer (different owner) in Seattle in 2000 until 2004 then left because of a disagreement (it involved working on Jaguars which I didn't want to do) and ended up finishing my career at Lexus (boring!) in 2010. I never worked on cars at home (unless I absolutely had to, wouldn't even change my own oil) Now I don't mind since I'm not working on them 8 hours a day. I built a 1500 SF shop (with a lift) for my retirement so I don't have to crawl around on a creeper. Just bought the Disco a couple of weeks ago and am going through fixing all the bits that don't work before I retire the DD Cherokee. I've had the SIII for a few years, don't drive it much though. The 47 CJ is kind of a show car, I spent a couple of years restoring it back to original, I've taken a couple of trips in it but it gets to be a long affair when you're limited to 45 MPH. So that's about all. Hopefully I can be a contributing member here.

Thanks Jon, too bad the ferry rates keep going up. The only downside of being retired and having a shop is having (relatives/friends/casual acquaintances) call and want some work done on their car This afternoon it's the daughter in law (I actually don't mind, breaks the routine) Right now I'm waiting for a parts order to start putting the Disco back together.

Please take the time to uses photos to document what you do and post them, so that others thousands of miles away can learn from your expertise.

Buzz,
I will when I do something that hasn't already been covered. Right now it's window motors, door latches, and broken bumpers. I'll jump in when I see something I can contribute (when my memory doesn't decide to leave me, which happens more frequently these days). Maybe I should try posting a picture, I had to have my son write out instructions when I posted pics on the CJ2A site, so I still have him for a resource if I get stuck. Right now I'm re-familiarizing myself with RAVE, (still had the discs) and digging the special tools out of storage (I ended up buying a lot of them because every time I went to the tool room to get one, it was missing and I got tired of looking around until I found it under someones bench.), Ah, the memories
