Default Just Popping in to Say Hi

Hey y'all,

I figured I'd go ahead and join at this point. My name is Pete. I've been lurking unregistered for a few days while doing nothing at work. My girlfriend is planning on ditching her Mercury Milan and picking up a Disco I or II. We're basically just looking for one that's in decent shape, and this forum has proved an excellent resource so far.

I'm handy with a wrench. I used to own a couple of E30 BMWs and now I own an E46 ZHP. I do most of my own work with the exception of head gaskets and clutches and perhaps some really intricate work. Apparently, at my new job on the base, I have access to a garage. That might help with working on a Disco.

Anyway, I'm kind of a lurker, but I'll post where I can. I've never owned an SUV and neither has she. But I'm excited because I'll be able to go off roading in it (maybe). Looking forward to learning more!

Pete

Welcome, the D1 will be older with more things to fix but they are simpler. Read comparison in tech area. A pre purchase inspection by an Indy shop

Oh yeah been reading all about these things. A PPI shouldn't be an issue since I've found a reasonable shop in the area. I'm trying to get my other computer going so I can download the RAVE manual, although I should just do it on this computer.

We looked at a Disco I today and it was great mechanically but not good enough cosmetically for my girlfriend. I, however, found it to be just my style. It had all sorts of sweet additions (lift, tons of lights, nice tires, etc.).

At this point, you could make a mistake and go for a truck that needs a lot of work - because you have the hots for a new ride. The indy guy will check oil pressure, coolant temps after warm up, etc.
