Looking for a D-90

Looking for a D-90
New here... trying to educate myself on the pitfalls in acquiring a Defender 90.
Back in the 70's...the first vehicle that I ever drove was a 1964-65 Series …."88"! It was my uncle's, we were on old back and logging roads here in Western Pennsylvania. I was 14-15 years old. He and I would go to the mountains on Sunday's to hike and fish. I can remember a couple of times in the winter, with lots of snow we would put-put past stuck pickup trucks with giant tires. We would get looks of disbelief from the roadside! I also remember that the LR could barely get to 55MPH....even down hill!
After not paying much attention to the Defender...especially since new ones were no longer sold in US; I recently looked at the Defender model via the innerweb. I noticed that you can import 25= years old Defenders and they have a turbo diesel intercooled engine that performs much better than my uncle's old 88! That peaked my interest. I am now looking to get a 1990-1994 Defender; 200-300TDi. I guess I am trying to capture some youth but also, I'm kinda tired of new vehicles. All car companies forcing you to purchase all of these ridiculous bells and whistles, just more crap that inflates the price and crap that you have to get fixed when it breaks! I am looking forward to a more simple mode of transportation. I can't deny the allure of the Defender cool factor either!
I was looking at Sear Motor Holdings. I am currently in communications with Defenders Direct. I don't have the funds for a full-blown restoration 50-100K. I'm hoping to locate a good solid D 90. I know enough so far to avoid the rusting bulkhead/crossmembers/footwells/doors etc.
If anyone has any other advice/suggestions please feel free!
Thanks in advance for any help!
Scott

Try defendersource, nas-row for good solid listings from generally good people
here is a great option (RHD)
https://expeditionportal.com/forum/t...-90-fs.199853/
otherwise try
riverhousemini
globallandrovers
for importing something of your choice.

I’ll second defendersource. The site is very active. You’re talking about a ROW (rest of world) Defender as far as one to import. Riverhousemini is a great option. They focus on LHD Defenders.
Also, because it seems like you are relatively new to this, the Defender was infact imported into the US for 4 years. 1993 saw 500 D110’s. In 94, 95 and 97 the D90 was brought in. These are known as NAS (north american spec) D90. They have a V8, Safety Devices roll cage amongst other differences. They are very desireable, and you’ll notice the prices are usally atleast doible that of a row defender. This coming year we’ll finally see row D90’s able to be imported in a NAS year. 1994.
You can also look to Japan as they saw the NAS trucks as well.
Good lick in your search!
