Talking My 1st LR...I'm Jazzed!

My Dad, a mechanic and precision machinist, taught me how to work on cars and trucks at a young age. When I found this Disco a few weeks ago, I didn't really consider buying it seriously until I found this forum and its encouragement for the DIYers. When I looked under the hood it was nice to see the whole engine instead of what you see in other trucks, foreign and domestic, these days.
I've read some every night to catch up on the basics: Changing all the fluids ( I've always done this, but its nice to have a guide), drive shaft(s), leaks (especially coolant) and more.
I am 3rd owner of a creampuff 2004 Disco II HSE that has seen no off road and has been garaged its whole life. Only 82Kmiles on the odo. It appears to have all the maintenance kept up, but there were no records with it. I'm gonna keep trying for those (dealer kept, hopefully) otherwise I'm gonna have to depend on the folks here to help me muddle through its (and my) infancy.
I've found lots of parts sites from links on this forum...those are invaluable.
I'm planning moderate off-roading (no rock crawling here, just lots of water, mud and sand) and some medium distance towing. Hope to get advice for setting up my Rover for that. It already has SLS and the tow package, but I'm figuring out the other options.

This is all WAY exciting, cuz this bad boy is gonna take me a lot of places with no holds barred on the gear I get to haul or tow. Already thinking about one of those Land Rover Experiences. I used to go to the sink holes in the National Forest in my old pickup. I'm gonna revisit them all in my new Disco.

Front drive shaft will need to be replaced or rebuilt, if still oem. Sealed joint snap, then thrash hole in transmission. Write up in our tech area of how to DIY rebuild before this happens.

Heat gauge is factory programmed to point at 50% from about 130 - 240F, so you don't know if your are driving with 227F temperature. A scanner or other OBDII connected device, like an Ultra Gauge, will give you true info. Even parked indoors your radiator can still be sludged up. Pix of two trucks, different temps, and notice heat gauge.

Factory shop and owner manual set is called the RAVE, free download below.

With summer coming you need to swap out the t-stat for the grey LR 180 t-stat as a start to keeping you engine temps down.
