Default My 200 dollar disco.

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I am new to Land Rover but have been wrenching on cars for 15 years so they don't scare me. I picked this up from a buddy who left it sitting for 2 years after he was unable to fix a coolant leak. I figure its worst case head gaskets and best case a hose etc. For 200 bucks I couldn't pass it up and I was able to drive it on the trailer. I'm gonna find a fix the coolant leak and fix the leaking sunroofs and whatever else it need. Its a Florida disco so no rust and I'm happy about that. We'll she where it takes me but I'm excited to learn something new.

WELCOME to The Nut House! WOW that rig looks very clean from 40 feet, and for $200 you would have to be crazy not to buy it. Good Luck!

Nice score. For $200 you may have won the best deal of the year award. Keep us posted.

Nice steal. Even if it's the head gaskets...you will still be way ahead of the game. Paid 500 for my 01, so you got me beat...lol. Plus, mine needed a trans, y-pipe and front drive shaft (750.00 worth of repairs) right of the bat.

Looks to be a 99/02 model. Might have CDL transfer case, which is a plus for off-roading ( once you find linkage assembly, it won't be hooked up from the factory).

Brian.

UPDATE: So far I have discovered that the head gaskets are blown. There is wetness by the main water jackets for one and I saw some bubbles on the driver side middle cylinders. Ill pull it apart and make sure the liner hasn't migrated. Funny thing though is the head gaskets have been changed before because I noticed that hammer spots on the firewall where they "massaged" it to pull the head bolt. The Disco is a 2002 and has 107k miles and my buddy got it at 80 so they must have been don't prior. Maybe a crap job??

I am starting the research on the best kit out there or the possibility of piecing together a kit from the best parts. I see a lot of threads about this or that being better or studs vs TTY bolts. Any advice on the current winner in the best option category I'm all ears.

I also pulled the headliner and found on of my sunroof drains broken "big surprise" so ill let the headliner dry and church it up. I look forward to base lining all the fluids and going from there. I plan to make it a camping/overland rig so a nice mild lift and tires will be about all I do. Once I complete my research on axle strength and the best lift components ill pull the trigger. Thanks

Another update.

Everything is done and so far I've done 300 trouble free miles (knock on wood)

List of things i did:
AB head gasket kit with ARP studs and other applicable oring and gaskets in that kit.
checked oil pump and timing chain and resealed cover.
oil pan gasket
full fluid flush on everything
180 tstat and new rad hoses for peace of mind.
fixed sunroof drains and spray can bed liner bombed the head liner.
Terrafirma 2 inch lift and some 265s of craigslist, makes it run better with the lift, lol

so far I'm enjoying it and as long as nothing happens ill be taking her to Tn so a nice 12 hour road trip should do her some good.
