Default In need of advice

Ok So i have never owned a land rover or range rover. i have driven quite a few and i am hooked. i live in the Pacific Northwest and i want to be able to enjoy the wild life areas as any Oregonian does. but i do not own a 4x4. That being said i am coming into a little bit of money soon and i think its time for me to make the plunge into ownership of one of these fine creatures. Im am a mechanic for local diesel repair shop and have years of experience working for local car dealerships as well so working on them will be natural. i guess I'm looking advice on what might be a good model to go with for 1000-3000 I'm not rich but i see these on craiglist a lot in the price range. any issues, chronics problems i should be aware of.....also once i buy one anyone know where to located decent priced after market wheels and tires??? Or finally if anyone in located in the Oregon/Washington area and has one to get rid of of to a new loving home let me know

D1 is simpler to service. D2 has more features. One is a sealed front prop shaft double U joint that will snap and then bash hole in side of tranny. D1s have locking CDL, some year of D2 don't. -

Both vehicle respond well to attention. Full shop manual is below, called the RAVE.

Do not trust dash heat gauge. Plug in your scanner.

A D1 can be had in your price range, a D2 in that range might need more work.

Both are prone to head gaskets (due to chronic overheated allowed by oem wimpy gauges) - kit is $90 - $125.
