Purchased 2 barely running Discovery 2. 1 03 SE7 and 1 04. The 03 had codes for 2 misfires #2 and #8. The 04, had many codes, and cat was red hot when we ran it for a few minutes. We started with the 04. Did a head gasket on the drivers side, (prev owner had drivers side replaced and had new gasket for right side). We went ahead and replaced coil, plugs and new 8mm wires. Codes cleared and runs great. Front drive shaft lasted 3 days, so replaced with new hd, greaseable shaft. Now for the oil pouring from the timing chain cover. Off with the pan and cover, new timing chain and gears. Vehicle is purring and runs flawless. New magnaflow y pipe finishes off the problem areas (cat rattles like a can if bolts). 3500.00 for vehicle and repairs. Car has 2" lift, new tires, nice aftermarket front end replacement with winch mount. On the 03, new coil, wires, plugs and no codes. It came with receipts from landrover dealer for top end rebuild. 2700.00 total investment. This purchase was a nobrainer for me. I did all the work with my son, teaching him since the 04 is his. I am 60, and have built engines since auto mechanics in high school. This forum has been a valuable source of info and help.
