Default New And Buying One Soon

Hey guys, I am new to the forum and looking to purchase a used discovery. I dont know what I like except for that im looking at the years of 01-04. I see all these letters like S, SE, HSE, and series I and II. I am just curious to really what the major differences are between them. Also, the ones I am looking at have between 80-110K miles on them. What are some items I should be looking at or feeling for while test driving them. I appreciate any help, thank you.

Well there are some major differences between the 01-02 models that you should consider if you are planning on going off roading. The 00-02 models were all different in terms of the center locking differential aka the best part about these cars and their offroad handling. Some of the models had the CLD but it wasn't connected, and other didn't have it at all. So if youre just looking for city driving go with one of those. The 03 as we all know has a big issue with oil pump failures, there is a specific VIN range of cars that are more likely to break than the others in the 03 year so check for that. The 04 and the 99D2 are known as the best model years, well arguably of course. I would bring a mechanic along with you or a close friend who knows cars, that's what I did and it turned out great! Good luck and read everything on these forums!

No idea about the whine, could be coming from anywhere... wheel bearings, transmission?! so many possibilities. I'd say drive as many of these as you can before picking one up. There will always be one available out there but you don't want to get stuck with a lemon.
