Smile New Disco II

Hi all, I would just like to post and say "hey".

I just bought a 2004 Disco with 83k on and was just wondering if there are is preventative maintenance I should do. I already plan to change the oil, bleed the brakes and change the thermostat, but is there anything else I should look into?

A bit about myself:

This is my first Landie but my dad has two Series II (109 and 88) and we are converting the 109 to a 300Tdi. The 109 has been in the family for about 25+ years now. When I was very young my dad bought it from a scrap yard and I helped him rebuild it so I do have some mechanical knowledge (I am by no means an expert though, that would be my dad). We also had a 300Tdi D90 but alas had to say goodbye to it when we moved to the US.

Welcome. The whole factory manual set, called the RAVE, is a free download below. Also see https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...service-29020/ for service items to catch up, and check out our tech area, in particular a write up on how to refit the front drive shaft with grease fittings. The stock shaft will chirp, split, and spear a hole in the transmission, usually well over $5,000 repair bill. If changing thermostat consider flush of radiator and change to green coolant, especially if fitted with orange Dexcool. This time of year you can run 15W40 Rotella or if really cold, 5W40 Rotella (by Shell). It is a diesel rated oil that has a lot of cleaning chemicals well suited for the older design engines. 10W30 is too light. You should also look at transmission flush, filter, and new fluid; and diffs and transfer case. Lots of things on the bottom side of a Disco. On the serious PM side, consider a manual oil pressure test, so you will know if your oil pump is up to spec.

Awesome, thanks for the info Savannah I appreciate it. I will definitely flush everything and take a look at the Major Service section and run through the list.
