I'm thinking of buying a 1997 Discovery with 107k miles. I know alot about cars, but little about Land Rovers. Any advice??? Anything special to look for?

I have a 97 Discovery (SD) with 78K. I bought it 6 years ago at 58K. Since owning, I have done the following to it (most were necessary fixes).

- Replaced transmission cooler lines (leaking)
- Replaced oil cooler lines (leaking)
- Replaced oil pan gasket (leaking)
- Replaced 4 tie rod ends
- Replaced coil springs and shocks (sagging)
- Replaced suspension bushings all the way around
- Replaced head gasket
- Replaced serpentine belt
- Replace window regulator and motor on driver door
- Replaced window regulator roller on passenger door
- Removed sagging headliner, trash fabric, primed/painted with chalkboard paint
- Replaced both front power seat switch covers (broken)
- Replaced glove box light assembly (broken/shorting and blowing fuses)
- Replaced cruise control hoses (cracked)
- Replaced steering damper (original never replaced)
- Replaced fuel filter
- Replaced fuel pump (died)
- Filled swivel ***** with one-shot grease

Stuff that needs attention:

- Leaking steering box and hoses
- Rotors, pads
- Wheel bearings (repack and/or replace)
- Whatever else comes up

Most of the work above I have done myself, saving thousands in labor charges.

So, consider the fact that you will be purchasing a great vehicle (IMO) that will require regular maintenance and repairs that can cost $$$ if you are not willing to do the work yourself.

With that said, I have no regrets. I love my Discovery.
