Default New Kid here

Hi everyone! My name is Dan and I recently bought my first car. A 1996 Disco with 2 inch lift, and full arb bumpers. I got it for $1900 from a family friend. My dad urged me to kid it because he loves rovers, he has a restored series II a and a disco 2. Well mine has been giving me some problems it has 235,000 miles but only 78,000 on the motor and 100,000 on the tranny. I have noticed it drips a little bit of oil (5 or 6 drops) everytime I park it and the lifters have started tapping, if i run it for 30 mins it grows a little louder. I was told it was from an exhasut leak but I have no clue. What causes this tapping? How can it be repaired? My mechanic says its normal for older discos and that it will still run fine but I have no clue. Any help would be great!

See https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...estions-46975/

If you are running 10W30 conventional it is too thin.

Buy an 8mm 12 point 1/4 inch drive socket and snug up valve covers evey oil change. Under the Rover you wil find a world of things to grease, and places that can leak oil. See the 60K high miles service write up in the tech area.

Download your very own copy of the RAVE, the full factory shop, wiring, and owner's manuals. Link below.

There is a SeaFoam treatment that will make exhausts smoke for a few minutes, and if you have a leak that will show up as well. You can also take a broom handle and hold to valve covers and your ear to locate noise source.

Trust these guys!

I'm new here too..and in just a few days I've done wonders with my '96 Disco 1 because of this forum!

Using the proper sockets and GENTLY tightening down the valve covers and oil pan will go far in reducing the size of the stain on the driveway. Not eliminate it - but reduce it!

Ok I am going to change the oil today and tighten everything up. It also has oil drops about halfway back. Can the tranny be leaking oil too?

noise can't be diagnosed properly on the internet. take it to someone. if its an exhaust leak have it identified.
