Default New to me Discovery II

Hello everyone. I recently picked up a 2002 Disco SE. It's my first Land Rover and is in great shape. Let's hope the head gasket holds up. Any other members in RI?

Welcome. Sharp looking ride. Be sure to check the front drive shaft to see if it has been updated to multiple grease fittings. The factory one is not, and can snap almost without warning and punch hole in tranny case. There is a write up on prop shaft rebuild, and high miles service items in our tech area. And the RAVE (factory shop manual and owner manual set) is a free download below. Don't trust temp gauge above 50%, consider an Ultra Gauge so you can see the real digital temperature.

Thanks guys, I downloaded the RAVE manual weeks before I bought it and the front driveshaft only has 2 grease fittings if I remember right. There is no play in it though and both driveshafts look brand new. I'm in the process of getting the service records from the dealer it was serviced at so I'll find out if the shafts were changed recently. Do they get some slop in them before they fail, or is it at anytime?

slop no, chirp yes, and good luck with service records, dealers treat them like personal health care data. Here's a pix of an updated prop shaft end.

Welcome and congrats! You'll love your DII and it'll be good to you as long as you take care of it.

I remember when my front prop shaft started to pack up. I was camping in Wyoming, about 2 1/2 hours from home when it started chirping at me. I drove it home very carefully and by some miracle it held long enough for me to drive it to a shop the next day. Updated now and it works marvelously.

Thanks for the info guys. Just took it offload for the first time. Conquered a coupe hard passes. Wished I had a CDL. Maybe that'll be the first project.
