Just bought a 2004 LR Discovery SE with 34000 miles. Starting on a complete fluid, filter and misc. run through the car. I have always driven street rods and just finished a 67 VW Microbus project with my son. I had a pressure test and compression test prior to purchase so I hope the engine is good for awhile. I have a few interior issues to deal (cracked dash over instruments and issue with passenger seat electic motor) but nothing major. I will take pictures and post anything I do. Thanks for the info as it really helped buying the car.

Welcome. The Rave download has tech manuals, wiring diagrams, to 2004, and may be a help. I have taken apart seats on my D1, there is a series of 12 volt motors with a flex drive cable from each. You can actually connect an electric drill and run the seat drive, if it is jammed in an odd position. Salvage yard Discos usually have torn seats, but these can be used for internal parts like motors. I paid $27 each for seats in good condition to replace my ripped ones. D1 and D2 seats are similar, but don't swap. Lots of people have problems with the switch units, they can be taken apart and adjusted, but these are also el-cheapo $3 spares from the salvage yard.

Cracked dash is a bummer, there are companies that make dash covers, don't know if they do it for Disco's.

The tech sticky in the forum has lots of items to fix, and lists of things to do at certain miles. Yours is so new you can spend all son's time detailing it. Major work will come later.

Default Thanks

I have downloaded all of the Rave data. I printed out the suggested maintainance sticky and started on that this weekend. Waiting on parts to do more. I found four series 2's in a salvage yard we use all of the time (streetrods require salvage yard relationships on my budget.) That should handle the seats and misc. The crack in the dash is going to take some hunting or a creative solution. If I can and it is cheap, I am going to get one out of the four in the yard. This will give me a backup and I can learn removal/installation on one that does not matter. I have repaired interior items like this and recovered with complimentary color leather or vinyl in the past. I will just have to check clearances. Thanks for the reply, I am in Moultrie so we are about four hours apart.
Son's time - what a joke! He is eighteen and as Robin Williams said "God gave men a brain and a *****, to bad we only have enough blood to run one at a time."
I will post pictures of the car and other project cars in the near future.

Default First Project

Just finished cooling system flush and replacing the heater plate on the throttle body. No major Dex Cool build ups and the only real issue is the stupid clamps used on the small hoses. Ended up buying assorted screw clamps and replacing everyone I could get off. No reason for pictures as these projects are covered already. Flushed a minimum of six times over the course of two days until it ran really clean. New thermostat. Now I am considering the inline thermostat conversion, but I need to read more.

Thanks for the info. Just bought prop shafts from a junkyard cheap to replace u-joints and then swap out. Also looking for an up/down motor seat for the front passenger seat.

You'll want to post in the Disco II section - more people read there than new member. I believe the motors are same in either front seat, paid $22 each for passenger seats and replaced both of my ripped ones, just ended up with lumbar adjust **** on wrong side. So you might find a donor seat. Grab the seat control switch as well for a future spare. Many users have gotten away from DexCool.
