new member, help me decide
hi guys, this is my first post, so please bear with me. I am extrmeemly fascinated by these SUVs. I i have been modding AWD DSMs for quite some time, and as my DSM becomes more "unstreetable", i'm looking into an SUV that I can drive to work everyday, and maybe tow my car on the weekends. i've noticed that used LR can go for around 5-7k (late 90's). i wanted to know what I sohuld look for in a used discovery and what kind of milage can i expect from the motor (most of them already have 100k miles on it). i'm mainly keeping this as a daily driver to go to and from work. I understand that they are not the more reliable cars in the world, but are they so horrible, that Mabye I should reconsider getting one.
thanks

People around here know a LOT more about LRs than I do but I've got a Freelander and I can't complain about the reliability. Also, in poking around this board (and other LR boards) I don't notice anything bad about the reliability of LRs. The one thing I CAN say is the service is (typically) rather expensive. However, as long as you continue to do the regular service you should have many years of (relatively) trouble free service from a previously well-maintained LR.
i'm looking forward to getting one of these. i'm just worried about the milage. i can do most of the work myself (short of an engine swap). i'm just curious to know if it unusual to see a Disco with 100k+ miles on the road in great running condition. also what sohuld i look for?
i picked up a 98 LSE discovery with 68,000 miles for 10,500. i thought it waas a good deal. also they are pretty reliable, every car has some issues when you buy used.
so i guess what oyur saying is that it is possible to find a land rover with 100K+ miles in good condition. what kind of gas millage to you get with your 98 LSE? also, is one one model better then the other (are there different version of the discovery within the same year)? sorry for all the questions, but i'd like to be well informed before i purchased a used vehicle
it may be poss. to find one with over 100 miles in good cond. but any car you buy with over 100 miles will prob have some issues. When i looked for mine i looked away from them if they had more than 80,000 on em. LSE is fully loaded, i think there is a Se model that does not have as many options on it.
It seems as if LandRover made continuous improvements to the disco through the years. You may want to look for a Discovery II or III series to take advantage of the improvements. I purchased my 2001 Discovery II about two weeks ago and so far I am very pleased with the everything about the vehicle!!
