Hello all, ive been roaming the forum for a while and figured i'd go ahead and introduce myself. my name is Clint, the Wife and I are currently stationed here at Mcchord afb. I am a Indication and Flight Controls Avionics Specialist on the C-17 Aircraft.

We purchased a Discovery II about a year ago with 141k on the clock for $2,500 and have enjoyed the vehicle very much. We've decided to retire the her as a DD and turn it into a weekend off-roader/camping rig. Since we've had her, she's developed a few problems and its time to do a major service. Some of the problems that have shown up are a P0455 massive evaporative leak, evap. system purge valve ticking like crazy, large coolant leak (no white smoke from exhaust, no coolant in oil/oil in coolant), and a loud squeak and a noticable vibration under accelleration. I believe the squeak and vibe is the front propshaft on its way out, it is not a revised unit and i have no service record of a rebuild. I've downloaded the service manual and plan on replacing the head gaskets, all coolant hoses, oil pan seal, front propshaft, water pump and, do a rebuild of the oil pump.

Anyways, i'll go ahead and end the book ive typed up here. Hopefully ill be able to gain some knowledge i dont have of the vehicle here!

Welcome. At the "office" you have done so much for so long with so little you can maintain anything forever with nothing! Check out our technical section, it has a series of DIY write ups including that front prop shaft rebuild. Keep eyeball on the coolant level. Sometimes it is sneaky and leaks out of a hose clamp only when driving. Can also escape down the back of the block. A coolant pressure tester can be borrowed/rented from parts store, about 15 PSI for 30 minutes will usually reveal it.
