Would like to introduce myself. My name is Ron and I just purchased my first Rover. Its a 1995 Land Rover Discovery, one owner and only had 49000 miles on it. I'm hoping to learn a lot about it.
Thank, Ron

Even with that low miles, some things will have aged based on years. Would be a good idea to take a look in our tech section, get the 60K miles repair list, and start on that. In particular, the radiator may have have grown calcium if distilled water was not used. A flush is a good idea. The heat gauge is normal up to about the 9:00 position. But you'll want to check carefully if it goes above that. Overheating comes quickly in a Rover. You'll be wanting to service the diffs and transfer case oils, these have small pipes that vent to open air, so easy for humidity to cause condensation inside those cases, even with low miles. There is also an article on oil in our tech area, Shell Rotella 15W40 is a darn good choice. You can look forward to 200K plus miles if reasonable care is taken. It is important to change oil at 3,000 - 5,000 intervals, no matter what oil is inside.

In my signature you'll find a link to download the RAVE, a factory set of shop, electrical, and owner's manuals for your truck.

While you got a low miles truck, best ever posted was a D2 with 117 garage kept miles - for $2000, that RoxieMoxie bought as her first truck. OEM gasoline....
