Hi.
My name is Don Williams, and I just bought a 2001 Discovery II this afternoon. The car (truck?) has 95K miles and appears to be in good shape with <most> service records available. I did search your forums for some intelligent questions to ask before purchasing, so hopefully I was reasonable well informed. Although I'm an engineer by trade, I'm no car expert, so I expect I'll pick up some good info from the group. Looking forward to owning a brand that I've admired my entire life - I know there will be some busted knuckles and choice swear words along the way, but I'm up for the challenge!

Welcome to the dark side (want a cookie?). The key ingrediant to making this an adventure instead of a miserable experiance lies in your words "..I've admired my whole life". It is about attitude. Sounds like you have found a relatively low mile vehicle. I hope you enjoy it and are happily impressed with her abilities.
Thanks. I've owned some varied vintages over the years. Only other british auto was a 1974 Lotus Europa that about ruined this <then> 22 year old. Hopefully I've learned a thing about patience over the years... Glad to be here and I hope you guys have some patience as well....

Maybe you'll find them if you do a search, download the RAVE or post in the correct area.
I flushed and changed oil, power steering fluid today, changed transfer case and both differentials, cleaned fuel lines and replaced fuel filter. I have an air filter and new thermostat on order; will flush coolant system once I replace thermostat. I ordered some stainless steel brake lines, too. The brakes are a bit mushy for my liking, and my previous experience suggests that SS lines will tighten up the feel. I'll probably solicit some opinions elsewhere regarding this. Belts and hoses <look> O.K. for now. The recommendations for service were really handy!
