Talking Newbie Disco II SD Owner.

So,
I figured it's an unspoken Forum rule or initiation to introduce one's self and vehicle on here. So here goes!

My name is Matthew Mitchell. Everyone just calls me Mat (yes with one "T")
I have been A VW/Audi Enthusiast and mechanic for many years now, and after delving through both companies, and volvo and saab and BMW and Mercedes......

A LAND ROVER. Brilliant. I always Talked about getting one when I had my kids. Albeit, I'll get it out there already. I'm a Gay man who has fallen in love with my fiancé who happens to also be gay. Not only that! But we are both Car mechanics and enthusiasts. Strange no? So the kids are "kind of" out of the question..... Regardless! I wanted A D2 In That cool Gunmetal grey color they came in. With that awesome tannish/gold interior color. And and and the 2 sunroofs.... 2!!! Hahaha (for the dog I guess)

So Moving to florida soon, I jumped under my beloved audi just to check everything out before the trip...
Time to sell it... no way not fixing that ****..... DoneZo.
First time I have ever given up on a car like that.

I soon found myself on Craigslist looking at all sorts of larger vehicles to lug whats left of my stuff I have to move. What do I find!?!?!?!?

My kind of brand new but not really scratched and swirled 2002 Niagara Gray with Bahama Beige Interior Discovery II SD in desperate need of an owner to love him (yes him) with smashed bumper plastics, a severe misfire, loose steering wheel, leaking and inoperative power steering pump, three Amigos (1590 W/ lights) A sticky rear hatch, with a tear in the driver's seat and a cracked windshield....
The most "character" I have ever seen on a car.

SOLD!!! $1300
The brand new tires on it cost that I'm pretty sure

That's my story so far, So I may be somebody you watch post things. Or I may just be an obnoxious twist to the forum. But I know one thing!
The honesty and appreciation most of you show on this forum is wonderful! Keep it up. And thank you for the silent welcome!

Cheers!

Welcome. You'll find the RAVE download handy (factory shop, electrical, and owner manuals). Just like there are things that put the "owww!" in Audi, ( I owned a 5000) there are a couple of things to keep in mind about a D2. The heat gauge is programmed to show 50% from 130F to about 240F, hook up your scanner to get accurate view of coolant temp. Don't allow overheating. Cylinder sleeves start to slip, etc. A 180F stat is a good upgrade. The front drive shaft comes oem with sealed grease joints on one end. Rebuild info in our tech area, or replace with after market. When it fails, with almost no warning, it can knock a hole in the transmission case.

Our tech area has high miles service list as well.

Seats are like $27 at the Boneyard, you can even plan your trips by what new ones will be found along the way. If there are parts you can't find easily locally, we have dismantlers who post on here and sell clean good condition items and recycle the rest. One is Paul Grant.

Sorry to hear that you got sunroofs, many have problems with them leaking, you'll find plenty of posts on that.

Default Awesome

Thanks alot for the welcome!
To be completely honest I have already downloaded the RAVE manual and D2 ECU PDF. Looked through the cooling sticky. etc Thanks to you.

I must say, the replacement of wires plugs and coils with the addition of SAI has been a bit brutal, just backwards thinking I guess, but I will have it finished tomorrow morning. Not enough light in the day!!!

Welcome and good to have you on board!

Sounds like you've got the "mechanic's special" Disco. But as long as you're up for it, I can see the appeal. They're one helluva vehicle, that's for sure.
